Biography

Hello, everyone! I am beyond thrilled to be a part of SFU’s Center for Educational Excellence (CEE) as an Educational Developer in the Curriculum and Instruction Division (CID). As an Educational Developer, my role is to support SFU’s various members of the teaching community by developing and facilitating workshops and teaching development programs, getting involved in collaborative projects, as well as providing individual consultations.

I have received a M.Ed. in Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language and a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction Foundations from the Faculty of Education at SFU, and am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in the Languages, Cultures, and Literacies Program here.

Before stepping into the world of Educational Development, for a little over twenty years, I have been dedicating my love for teaching and learning in the field of English as Additional Language (EAL) as an instructor and administrator, and as a teacher educator/trainer in the area of English Language Teacher Education (ELTE). I have also worked in both private and public adult-learning contexts, including schools overseas. I have always enjoyed taking on roles that allowed me to be a coach and a mentor, supporting curriculum design/re-design and improving approaches to instruction with the intent to improve learning experience for learners, and being an educational developer has been the perfect opportunity for me to weave who I am, what I care for, and what I enjoy doing.

In addition to my work experience, I bring with me the warmth, care, and the capacity needed in being in a supporting/collaborating role for the teaching community. My lived experiences as a former international student, a temporary foreign worker, a cancer survivor, and a new settler of Canada, who supports elderly parents with social and linguistic needs, have given me the capacity to relate and empathize to the many troubles of others. One of the valuable feedback I had received from instructors and colleagues I had worked with is that I am easy to talk to, and that I am a good listener.

I look forward to working with the various members of the SFU community for the improvement of learning experiences for our learners here.
