Biography

My professional journey through the terrain of both lifelong learning and educational development reflects an approach so beautifully captured in the conversations between activists Myles Horton and Paulo Freire: We make the road by walking.

The road I have been walking features over 20 years’ experience in teaching, educational development, facilitation, educational technology, and curriculum design and development.  In my capacity as director of the Learning and Teaching Technology Division at CEE, I lead the team that provides the pedagogical, technical and administrative support for online and blended learning course development and innovation in technology enhanced learning at SFU.

I am originally from land adjacent to where the Bow River meets the Elbow River; the traditional Blackfoot name of this place is Moh’kinstsis, a place we now refer to as Calgary. I hold a Doctor of Education from the University of Nottingham (2018), where my research focused on a political economy of skills development. In addition to the various educational development roles I have held in postsecondary education, I am a Fellow of the Society for Education and Training (UK) and president of the board of directors for the Canadian Vocational Association / Association canadienne de la formation professionnelle.
