CELLTR’s professional development workshop series begins

November 14, 2014

On Friday, November 14, 2014, the Centre for English Language Learning, Teaching and Research hosted its first professional development workshop, 10 tips for giving effective feedback on EAL student writing for 23 attendees. The workshop introduced participants to strategies drawn from second language writing research about how to effectively support EAL students’ language learning through the feedback given to them on their written assignments.

The workshop participants provided constructive feedback after the workshop, which will assist the Centre in the creation and design of further professional development workshops. In this vein, we would like to thank everyone who participated in the workshop, and we hope they found the workshop both relevant and helpful in relation to their EAL teaching, learning, and/or support roles at SFU. We look forward to seeing you all again at a future CELLTR workshop!

CELLTR is dedicated to developing services for students, staff and faculty that will support them with teaching and learning in SFU’s culturally diverse and multilingual environment. As such, CELLTR’s professional development workshop series is a first of these initiatives that aims to introduce--through a brief summary of the research--an EAL teaching and learning topic and to offer related suggestions for research-informed practice(s).

You can assist the Centre in designing future EAL professional development programming for the SFU Community! If there is an EAL teaching and learning topic that you would like to learn more about, please share your ideas with us through CELLTR’s “Ask Us” page.
