Application Process (apply by May 15)
SFU Communication Students
Students who wish to take this course for credit will register for CMNS 855 (5 credits) through SFU’s School of Communication.
For permission to enrol, please email Stuart Poyntz (spoyntz@sfu.ca) with a brief request describing your academic background and interest in the course.
SFU Graduate Students
Graduate students at SFU should request enrolment by submitting a course add form to Jason Congdon (gradcmns@sfu.ca).
Graduate Students from other Western Canadian universities
Graduate students from other Western Canadian universities who wish to take this course for credit may enrol through the Western Dean’s Agreement. Please contact your program’s administrator, your supervisor, or your graduate studies office for details on how to initiate this process at your institution. Western Dean’s Agreement applications must be submitted by March 30. Alternatively, you may wish to explore the option of using the summer school syllabus to secure a directed reading or independent study for credit at your home institution.
Graduate students will be given priority, however limited space will be available for third and fourth-year undergraduate students who have already completed at least 60 credits and who hold a GPA of at least 3.5. Enrollment is conditional on the approval of the Summer School advisor (contact spoyntz@sfu.ca for information).
To receive priority consideration, WDA applicants should obtain approval from Stuart Poyntz and inform Jason Congdon of their intention to enrol.
Graduate Students outside of Western Canada
Graduate Students outside of Western Canada and International Students who wish to receive credit from their home university will be given a letter of completion from the coordinator of the summer course. Receipts for registration and tax purposes will not be issued. Students outside of Western Canada are responsible for ensuring that credit for the program is recognized by their home institution. Following review, all accepted applications that require VISA support, you will be contacted and provided a Letter of Support from the coordinating team.
