Quintilian, vol. 1
Welcome to the web site of Watson's Quintilian
There being no complete English translation of Quintilian's Institutes of Oratory (besides those published in the Loeb editions) since the Rev. John Selby Watson published his in 1891, which is now largely inaccessible, this site has been established in order to facilitate access to this translation by browsers.
The site offers scanned versions of Watson's translation both in Adobe Acrobat PDF format and in Microsoft Word format. Since we are not currently working on Quintilian, we have not taken the time to edit the Word version of the text to ensure the accuracy of the scanning, but we hope that cross reference to the pdf version, which reproduces the Watson text as it actually appears in book form, will make up for this limitation. So far, we have only scanned Volume 1. Volume 2 will be available soon, we hope.
