Funding and Tuition | Global Communication

When a student is resident at Simon Fraser University (SFU), the student pays per-semester specialty program tuition fees to SFU. When a student is resident at the Communication University of China (CUC), the student pays the full annual tuition amount to CUC in one installment. The SFU’s specialty program tuition fee is $4,269.16 per term in the 2018/2019 academic year. Applicants are advised to check the confirmed rate posted by the university at the time of application. The estimated tuition fee for Year 2 of the program at CUC is 45,000 Yuan (estimate $9,500 CAD).

Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards

These are one time exclusive scholarships that are only applicable to prospective students.

Global Communication  Entrance  Scholarships: The Global Communication Entrance Scholarships are available for exceptional new students  in the  program. All Canadian and International  students  will  be considered.

CUC  Entrance  Scholarships: The CUC Entrance Scholarships are available for SFU-recruited students who demonstrate outstanding performances during the year at SFU. CUC will apply tuition waiver to the winners of the CUC Entrance Scholarships.

The Orient Star Media Graduate Scholarship in Global Communication

The purpose of this award is to recognize and provide financial support to graduate students enrolled full-time in the Global Communication M.A. Double Degree Program

Vivienne Taylor Bursary

During her time as an Undergraduate student at SFU, Vivienne received bursary funding, which enabled her to finish her degree. This life-changing experience would lead her and her husband to establish The Vivienne Taylor School of Communication Bursary Fund.

This generous gift will be awarded in the form of a bursary  to a graduate student in the Global Communication M.A. Double Degree Program.

China Scholarship Council  Scholarships

The China Scholarship Council provides multiple scholarship opportunities for students studying in China.  

SFU International

The International office provides support and services for all students seeking information regarding a variety of international learning opportunities.   Specific services and supports include: advising and programs for all degree-seeking international students and inbound exchange students; information about Exchanges, Study Abroad, and Field Schools; International Orientation; assistance with medical insurance, taxes, visas, work and study permits; and community engagement opportunities.

 

Year 1 Program Fees at SFU

For Academic Year One at SFU, all students shall pay specialty program tuition and other required fees only to SFU. Please refer to the official current posted rate for program fees.

Please note that students are responsible for paying tuition each semester at SFU. Students recruited by SFU, whether domestic or international, pay the same specialty tuition for this program.

Other Mandatory Fees

For Academic Year One at SFU, all students will be required to pay the following mandatory fees:

  1. Ancillary Fees - these fees include Graduate Student Activity Fee, Universal Transit Pass, Student Services and Recreation-Athletics Fees, and Special Fees. 
  2. Medical Insurance - which provides students with medical coverage (unless the student provides proof of acceptable equivalent coverage to SFU). 

All students are responsible for paying their own travel costs and any other costs related to the program, such as personal and living expenses, books, and school supplies.

Year 2 Program Fees at CUC

Students recruited by SFU shall pay program tuition and other required fees to CUC. The estimated tuition fee at CUC is 45,000 Yuan (estimate ̈́9,500 CAD)

All students are responsible for paying their own travel costs and any other costs related to the program, such as personal and living expenses, books, and school supplies.
