New website template is launching!
The CLF4 template is launching next week! The new template incorporates SFU’s brand for an updated look and feel and will be available for sites built within AEM, either existing or new.
Requesting the new template
There are two different processes to moving a site over to CLF4, depending on whether your current site is in CLF2 or CLF3.
CLF3 to CLF4
If your site is currently in CLF3 (the horizontal template) you will need to take the following steps to transition your site to the new template:
- When a site admin is ready to switch their site, they will be able to contact C&M to start the process by filling out the web request form and selecting CLF3 to CLF4. No website will be converted to CLF4 until the site admin contacts Communications & Marketing.
- Their existing site will be placed in a staging environment in CLF4 where the site admin can review and test for any problems.
- Once the site has been reviewed it can be re-launched in CLF4 by submitting the web launch form.
When requesting to move your site from CLF3 to CLF4 it is recommended to initiate the request during a time when you will have the capacity to review and make any additional changes to the site. We recommend that you plan for this to happen over a time period of 3 weeks to give yourself time to complete the steps above.
New sites or sites in CLF2
If you are requesting a new website or your site is currently in CLF2 you will need to take the following steps, at a minimum, to transition your site to the new template:
- Submit a website request on the toolkit.
- Create a website plan.
- Request a production site.
- Build (or re-build) your site in the new production site.
- Once the site has been reviewed it can be re-launched in CLF4 by submitting the web launch form.
Please note, if you are building your site the timeline typically ranges from 3-12 months. There is more information on capacity planning and estimating timelines in the Communicators Toolkit. If you ever have any specific questions on how to estimate a project, please connect with us at sfucm@sfu.ca.
The complete recommended process will be the same as it has been for sites previously transitioning from CLF2 to CLF3, as outlined on the Communicators Toolkit.
When can websites be updated?
You can initiate the request to move your site, or create a new one, in CLF4 starting March 4 by submitting the web request form.
