Simon Fraser University computing science professor Jian Pei is one of only 24 researchers to receive the 2015 Yahoo Faculty Research and Engagement Program (FREP) award. This academic outreach initiative is designed to produce the highest quality scientific collaborations and outcomes by engaging with faculty and students conducting research in areas of mutual interest. The FREP awards support new Internet research studies and experiments between academics across the globe and their Yahoo Research Scientist counterparts.

Over the course of the next year and beyond, FREP award recipients and Yahoo Labs scientists will work closely to further research in their mutual areas of interest. The proposed research will build on professor Pei’s expertize in pattern mining to devise effective techniques for rich query-less search experiences.
