Technical Support for Canvas
NOTE: If you are using an email account hosted by Microsoft (@hotmail.com, @outlook.com, @live.com or @live.ca), your Canvas course invitations and password reset emails may get directed to your junk folder or not delivered at all. Please use another address (Gmail, Shaw, Telus, etc.).
How do I change a password for an external account?

4. Click Request Password
You will receive an email from canvas in your mailbox
5. Click the email.
6. Click Click here to set a new password
7. Enter a new password
8. Confirm the new password
9. Click Update Password
Regular SFU users should continue to use the Change your password or Forgot your password links presented on the SFU CAS login page.
How do I accept an invitation to create a non-SFU (external) account?
Your instructor may have added you using an external account. If so, here is how you would accept the course invitation.
1. Click on the course invitation in your mailbox. Be sure to check your junk mail if you dont see it in your inbox.
2. Click Get Started
3. Click Accept
4. Enter your password. You will need to save this so you can log in to canvas later.
6. Click Register.
You will now see your course. Please note your email address would show up in discussions so you should change your display name by clicking settings on the top right hand side and choosing edit settings to access your personal settings.
How do I access previously completed courses in Canvas?
You will retain access to Canvas even once your course end date is long past. You can access your previously completed courses in Canvas by clicking “Courses” in the left sidebar and selecting “All Courses” near the bottom of the flyout menu. You will be presented with a page of current courses, followed by a list of your past courses under the section “Past Enrollments.”
When will I get my invitation to Canvas?
You will receive an invitation by email to join your course at 12:01am on the first day the course begins. If you don't see this email in your inbox, please check your Spam and Junk mail folders.
