What is your current position? Briefly describe what you do.

I am an Associate Brand Manager at Animas Canada, which is one of the Diabetes Care Companies at Johnson & Johnson.  I support the management of the Animas brand in the insulin delivery category, and work in several cross-functional teams to execute direct-to-consumer projects in alignment with the marketing plan. Projects can include working with Regulatory in developing new product claims supporting a product launch, collaborating with Field Sales and external agencies in developing new marketing materials and managing Animas’ presence in events for the diabetes community.

What was the best advice that you received while you were an SFU student?

One of the best pieces of advice I received was to take advantage of the opportunities available at Beedie.  It could be completing an international co-op work term, competing in case competitions, or spending a semester on international exchange.  Stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new experiences could be intimidating, but there is no better time to do it than when you’re a student!  Not only can that enrich your university career, but your vast experiences will make you unique and different amongst other people.

What are the key factors, people, and experiences that got you to where you are today?

My involvement with student clubs and BASS provided me the experiences and confidence to apply for the co-op program which led me to an eight-month co-op work term with Johnson & Johnson, which ultimately led to my current position today.  If it wasn’t for the co-op work term, I would not have had the opportunity to build the relationships and connections that brought me back to the company right after graduation.

Looking back and thinking about your career path, what would you tell your graduating self?

I would tell myself to enjoy my time as a student!  You spend most of your university days hoping to graduate soon, but your undergraduate career flies by and before you know it, you will be looking back hoping you were still a student.  To your surprise, everything works out in the end.  So, take your time and take advantage of all the opportunities available at Beedie!
