We chart a clean energy future. The Clean Energy Research Group advises decision makers around the world about switching to clean energy systems.

We diversify energy systems. Engineering professor Michael Adachi and his team develop new solar cell technologies.

We support the transition to a zero-emission economy. SFU Fellow Alex Boston helps cities around the world reduce carbon emissions and adopt innovative climate solutions

Our alumni advance renewable energy solutions. Founded by SFU alumni, Moment Energy won the Impact Investor Challenge’s top prize in 2021 for storing renewable energy in repurposed vehicle batteries.

We help renew cities and communities. Business professor Andrey Pavlov studies real estate trends during the pandemic to better understand their impact on our economy.

We support green transportation. SFU’s Sustainable Transportation Action Team analyzes and advances low-impact transportation solutions.

We help communities fight climate change.  SFU’s Action on Climate Team works with B.C. communities to strengthen climate change resilience and reduce greenhouse gases.

We innovate to fight climate change. Sustainable engineering professor Sami Khan develops efficient systems to capture and convert carbon dioxide emissions.

We help farmers innovate. SFU researchers improve crop-data tools, develop safer pest controls and help farmers grow more food with less pesticide.

We train the next generation of cleantech engineers. Students at SFU’s School of Sustainable Engineering learn to become global leaders in cleantech.

We expand green power. The Hybrid Thermal Electric Microgrid project trains students to design the next generation of green power energy grids.

We test climate solutions. Researchers at SFU’s Living Lab turn SFU’s campuses into testing grounds for sustainable solutions to combat climate change.

We build healthier cities. Health sciences professor Meghan Winters designs green transportation solutions to build healthier cities and communities.

We help cities de-carbonize. Professor Andréanne Doyon explores urban governance and planning for low-carbon and climate-just cities.

We help the world fight climate change. Professor Taco Niet works with governments around the globe helping build capacity and expertise in the fight against climate change.

We’re cleantech trailblazers. SFU won the Top Education Institute Award and the Top Scholar Award at 2021’s BC Cleantech awards.

We advance cleantech solutions. Canada Research Chair Majid Bahrami develops sustainable energy projects. His research team won the 2016 Canada Clean50 Award.

We empower people to fight climate change. In The Citizen’s Guide to Climate Success, professor Mark Jaccard shows us how we can all reduce our emissions and support a green energy transition.

We power clean energy. Canada Research Chair Erik Kjeang heads SFU’s Fuel Cell Research Laboratory where he works with Ballard Power Systems on fuel-cell-powered buses.

We’re climate change experts. Four SFU climate change experts joined the Canadian Institute for Climate Choices to help tackle Canada’s climate challenges.

We assess strategies and actions to address the climate crisis. Geography professor Kirsten Zickfeld models climate-mitigation efforts to determine whether they are on track to meet climate targets.
