SFU named one of Canada’s top employers for 2022

November 18, 2021

Generous maternity and parental leave top-up payments and a defined benefit pension plan are among the reasons that SFU was named one of Canada’s top 100 employers for 2022.

Now in its 22nd annual edition, Canada’s Top 100 Employers Competition recognizes employers for their human resources programs and workplace policies. The competition is organized by Mediacorp and grades employers across eight criteria; SFU received an A+ rating for its physical workplace; health and family friendly benefits; vacation and personal time-off; and training and skills development. The university also received an A rating for its financial benefits and compensation.

In addition to being named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, SFU was also recognized as one of the Top Employers for Canadians Over 40, Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers and B.C.’s Top Employers (2021).

Among the reasons cited for SFU’s selection:

-       New employees start at four weeks of paid vacation, with additional paid days off during Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

-       Onsite child care and generous maternity and parental leave top-up payments (100 per cent for 35 weeks) for continuing employees who are new mothers, fathers or adoptive parents.

-       Defined benefit pension plan and health benefits that extend to retirees as well as retirement planning assistance and phased options to help employees transition to retirement.

In addition, staff also have use of the university pool, gym, fitness classes and fitness centre. The university also provides generous professional and career development support, including a tuition waiver, tuition reimbursement and substantial professional development funds.
