SFU named one of Canada's top family-friendly employers
SFU has been named one of Canada’s Top Family-Friendly Employers once again in recognition of the university’s dedication to creating a workplace that values a healthy work-life balance, professional growth and development and community engagement.
This special designation within Canada’s Top 100 Employers project evaluates employers on their programs and initiatives that help employees balance work and family commitments. The competition looks at a wide range of human resources practices including parental leave, daycare assistance and flexible work arrangements.
Some of the key family-friendly benefits that make SFU stand out include tuition waivers for staff as well as their spouses and children, a minimum of three weeks paid vacation for staff plus additional paid days off during the winter holiday, and generous parental leave top up payments (to 100% of salary for 35 weeks).
“We know how important it is for our employees to be able to balance and thrive in their work and family lives, and our policies and practices provide a strong foundation for this,” says Christina Medland, SFU’s executive director, People and Organization Development.
“Moving forward, we’ll be focusing on further contributing to supportive and healthy work environments for employees through the development of our first organizational well-being strategy. Well-being doesn’t distinguish between home and work.”
