Terrorism, Risk & Security Studies Program

The Master’s Program in Terrorism, Risk and Security Studies (TRSS) at Simon Fraser University is a unique, interdisciplinary program that addresses public safety and national security challenges from a number of perspectives. TRSS was designed for people who are currently employed in policing, intelligence, cybersecurity, border security, the military, and so forth. The program can be completed almost entirely online and on a part-time basis, so students don’t need to take a leave of absence from their jobs.

TRSS was originally offered as a Cohort Special Arrangement (CASR) program.  The TRSS program has been approved by SFU's Senate and Board of Governors, and is currently seeking approval from the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.  We are not accepting applications at this time.

If approved, the permanent program is expected to cover the same content but maybe subject to some changes.

Admissions Update

Website updated on July 28, 2021.  For a number of reasons, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences has made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Ministry of Advanced Education our proposal seeking permanent program status for the Terrorism, Risk and Security Studies Program.  We have encountered challenges securing the resources needed to run the program on a permanent, on-going basis, and delays in the approval process--both internal to SFU and with the Ministry--have prevented TRSS from admitting new cohorts.
