While it’s back to the books at Simon Fraser University, more than 2,100 students are instead preparing to celebrate the completion of their paths to graduation.
Fall Convocation ceremonies are planned for Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7 at the Burnaby campus. Four ceremonies will be held; mornings starting at 9:45 a.m. and afternoons at 2:30 p.m.
This marks the first Convocation for newly installed Chancellor Carole Taylor, who will preside over each of the ceremonies.
Four distinguished individuals will be honored at the start of each ceremony: author William Deverell (Thursday a.m.), musician and artistic director Ian Hampton (Thursday p.m.), ecologist C.S. (Buzz) Holling (Friday a.m.) and former Musqueam chief Wendy Grant-John (Friday p.m.)
Graduands and dignitaries will line the walkway just east of the Academic Quadrangle pond for the colourful procession, led by a piper, down the steps and into Convocation Mall. Ceremonies will include students from the following faculties:
Thursday a.m.: Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
Thursday p.m.: Faculties of Applied Sciences; Communication, Art and Technology; Health Sciences
Friday a.m.: Beedie School of Business, Faculty of Environment
Friday p.m.: Faculty of Education, Faculty of Science
