Simon Fraser University masters in fine arts student Barbara Lindenberg has choreographed A Thousand Mountains, a synthesis of simplicity, complexity, absurdity and optimism, signifying the culmination of her degree when the performance takes to the charming dance floor of Vancouver’s Wise Hall. The performance, featuring the music of David Ito Chokroun, will take place on Thursday, August 18, at 8 p.m.
From unsettlingly silent lip-synching to slow motion depictions of crowd surfing, each dance creates a world on its own and in relation to others. The dances are short events of a depictive nature, performed in informal environments.
Lindenberg is both a choreographer and a performer, and recently was a guest of the Amsterdam Master of Choreography (AMCh) program at the Amsterdamse Hoogeschool voor de Kunsten this past spring and summer. Lindenberg’s dances have been presented by Nuit Blanche (Toronto), Just for Laughs Street Festival (Toronto), Fringe Shanghai, Series 808 Season Finale, AWOL Galley’s wHole exhibition, Lab Cabaret, A Month of Sundays, Au Revoir Darling and Up Darling. Lindenberg has also presented sets of dances independently at a variety of informal venues in Vancouver and Toronto.
