SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs, the Indian Summer Arts Society (ISAS) and Teamwork Productions (India), in association with the Consul General of India, will announce the Indian Summer Festival’s 2011 line-up, featuring internationally acclaimed performers and artists, at a press conference on May 31, 2011, from 10am until 12pm, at SFU's Goldcorp Centre for the Arts.
In celebration of Vancouver’s 125th anniversary and the ‘Year of India in Canada,’ the Indian Summer Festival, running July 7-17, 2011, in downtown Vancouver, will feature top contemporary and classical Indian talent from the areas of music, dance, literature, film, yoga, and cuisine – pairing some of India’s most renowned performers and thinkers with local Vancouver counterparts.
The press conference will also feature a live performance by Vancouver musician Andrew Kim, one of Canada’s leading Indian sitar players. Kim is a member of the band Delhi 2 Dublin, recipients of the 2009 Western Canadian Music Award for World Recording of the Year, as well as the musical trio Dharmakasa.
Fine Indian teas and scones will also be served, courtesy of the Urban Tea Merchant.
