Field Training for Interpreters
This course is conducted remotely and focuses on various foundational skills required for successful interpreting –including listening comprehension, memory retention, note taking and verbalization in the target language. You will also acquire general knowledge, ethics, and soft and hard skill sets that for becoming a professional interpreter.

Interpretation and Translation Diploma (Mandarin Chinese/English)
How you will learn and be evaluated
Expect to spend about 7 hours per week on interpreting field training.
In-class preparation
- Study vocabulary lists and literature that explain the content of the interpreting session
- Practice in advance after watching a video recording of a past group's performance during a similar session
- Conduct extensive research and master basic facts and vocabulary before each practice session
Remote practice session
- Take turns with classmates interpreting for host speakers
- Practice sessions will be recorded for later performance analysis
Post-practice interpretation analysis
- Using the video recording, your instructor and classmates will evaluate your performance
