Social Media and Online Engagement
This course will teach you to create social media and online engagement campaigns that engage people in new types of conversation, sustain participation over time, and host online dialogue. You'll also learn how to use social media for outreach and community engagement, and consider how to integrate mobile communication into your participation strategy.
You'll be able to use these tools in projects that use both online and face-to-face communication.
This course was formerly called Social Media and Engagement. The name change is in effect for the 2020/2021 Dialogue and Civic Engagement Program.

What you will learn
After completing this course, you’ll be able to do the following:
- Define objectives for your online engagement strategies
- Begin to write content appropriate for social media public participation projects and understand the importance of two-way communication in this medium
- Describe qualities of online facilitation
- Describe best practices for supporting a users’ experience a quality experience for online participants
- Identify participation barriers for digital environments and explore approaches to increase equity and inclusion
- Craft a basic online strategy to engage people at all depths of involvement and at various stages of the project
