LIBERAL ARTS AND 55+ PROGRAM

Kate Elliott is a writer and transdisciplinary researcher whose interests include urban green spaces, local food security, supply chain logistics and cycles of consumption and waste. Her master’s thesis (SFU Urban Studies, 2019) examined the working lives of informal recyclers. Her doctoral research documents the life cycle of grocery carts, exposing the relationships between carts and the humans who design, assemble, use and repurpose them.

Kate’s object biography is nourished by the work of the interdisciplinary writers at the Oxford Centre for Life Writing, where she has been an active member since 2020. She is currently director of the Wayfinding for Restorative Methods initiative, where she spends time with scholars and artists interested in lowering the carbon embedded in their research practices.

Kate has worked as an educator, public health researcher, translator and cemetery assistant. She holds degrees from SFU (MUrb), the University of Ottawa (BEd) and UBC (BA).
