Patricia Gruben, PhD, is an associate professor of film in SFU’s School of Contemporary Art. She is also the director of The Praxis Centre for Screenwriters and a writer/director.
A specialist in Indian cinema, Gruben directs SFU’s field school in the Contemporary Art and Culture of India. She has organized and conducted several workshops in India on film and has worked on two Indian co-productions.
Gruben has published articles in Film Literature Quarterly, Screentalk and Creative Screenwriting. She has also contributed a chapter to a book on Atom Egoyan (Wilfrid Laurier Press) and a chapter on Gary Burns for a book on Canadian filmmakers that was edited by George Melnyk.
Her work has been screened internationally at festivals including those of Vancouver, Toronto, Edinburgh, Sydney and Créteil, as well as Sundance, the festival du nouveau cinéma and the New York Film Festival.
