Simon Fraser University is meeting a need for human resources training in BC’s labour force.

This spring, Continuing Studies launched a human resources management certificate targeted at both current and aspiring human resources professionals.

The university developed the certificate in response to a growing demand for HR training, said Raveen Sanghera, who oversees the program.

Sanghera pointed to statistics from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, which suggest that there will be a national shortage of HR professionals over the next seven years.

Human resources “plays a role in any industry—in any field,” she said.

Graduates of the part-time, six-course certificate program will be prepared to write the first of two exams necessary for BC‘s Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.

Courses will take place at SFU’s Vancouver and Surrey campuses.
