Liberal Arts and 55+ Program

Tuition Assistance

Thanks to generous donors over many years, financial support is available for low-income students 55+ who cannot otherwise participate in courses offered by the SFU Liberal Arts and 55+ Program. Assistance is available to cover a significant amount of course registration fees.

Eligible students pay a reduced rate of $25 per course. Students receiving tuition assistance are eligible to take two courses in the fall and spring terms and one course in the summer term. Additional fees related to the optional Certificate in Liberal Arts are not covered.

To be eligible you must be 55+ and have a gross income in 2018 of $25,921 or less for a single person and $32,270 or less for couples married or in a common-law relationship.

Application process

To apply for the tuition assistance, please call 778-782-5212 to arrange a meeting with the Program Director. You will need to bring a completed application form and proof of your income (your most recent Income Tax Notice of Assessment).

Once approved, your tuition assistance is valid for 12 months. You may reapply for tuition assistance each year; however, you will need to show updated proof of income.

How do I register for courses?

Once you have been approved for tuition assistance, please speak to the Program Assistant (778-782-5212) to register for courses. Please note, to receive the reduced course rate, you will not be able to register online.

See the Continuing Studies non-credit cancellation/refund policy for information.

Please note that students receiving tuition assistance are not eligible to transfer classes. Please choose your classes carefully.
