Part-time, online First Responders Trauma Prevention and Recovery Certificate
We will evaluate your application to this part-time program based on your academic qualifications, relevant work experience and interest in the field. For admission to this program, we require:
- Certificate or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in police foundations, law and security administration, pre-fire service and prevention, paramedicine, 911 and emergency services communications, veterinary medicine or other related program, or
- Certificate, diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in social work, rehabilitation and disability management, counselling, nursing or other related program of study, or
- Two or more years of work experience and current employment in a first-response agency.
You can also take individual courses toward the certificate before you apply. If you are accepted to the program at a later date, any courses that you complete successfully (that are part of the First Responders Trauma Prevention and Recovery certificate curriculum at the time you apply) will count toward your certificate.
We review applications as we receive them and will contact you about the status of your application within two weeks.
While not required for admission, strong computer literacy skills, as well as analytical and multitasking skills, are an asset for this program.

English language requirements
To succeed in our programs and courses, you will need an advanced level of written and spoken English. If you are unsure whether your English language skills are sufficient, we recommend you complete the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall band score of 6.5 (unless otherwise noted). If you have questions or concerns about your English language proficiency, we encourage you to contact your local IELTS Test Centre.
