Part-time, online First Responders Trauma Prevention and Recovery Certificate
We will evaluate your application to this part-time program based on your academic qualifications, relevant work experience and interest in the field. For admission to this program, we require:
- A certificate, diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in police foundations, law and security, pre-fire service and prevention, paramedicine, 911 and emergency services communications, or in such areas as social work, rehabilitation and disability management, counselling, nursing or another related program of study and
- Two or more years of work experience and/or volunteer experience in a first-response agency or organization
Please include the following with your application:
- A resumé that includes your education and work history
- A letter telling us about your experience working as a first responder and why you would like to be considered for the First Responders Trauma Prevention and Recovery Certificate program (300 words max)
You can also take individual courses toward the certificate before you apply. If you are accepted to the program at a later date, any courses that you complete successfully (that are part of the First Responders Trauma Prevention and Recovery Certificate curriculum at the time you apply) will count toward your certificate.

English language requirements
To succeed in our programs and courses, you will need an advanced level of written and spoken English. If you are unsure whether your English language skills are sufficient, we recommend you complete the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall band score of 6.5 (unless otherwise noted). If you have questions or concerns about your English language proficiency, we encourage you to contact your local IELTS Test Centre.
