“I enjoy working with people, and most importantly, helping people.”
What has been the most challenging thing about going back to school?
Not only had I been out of school for many, many years, but these were also my first university courses. The biggest challenge I had was learning how to submit assignments and papers using the proper APA style. The librarian at the campus library was very helpful and the instructors were great in giving some examples and helpful websites…After a few papers, it’s gotten easier!
Do you use anything you’ve learned in your day-to-day work?
Yes! The instructors have been great relating the course material to the workplace and the assignments were all very applicable and relevant in my current role.
What drew you to working in the human resources field?
I enjoy working with people, and most importantly, helping people. I get a lot of job satisfaction knowing I can provide resources, knowledge and advice to help support our stores.
What are your future goals? Do you think studying with SFU Continuing Studies will help you accomplish them?
I want to continue to develop within my current role, and finish taking the final three courses to receive my HR Management Certificate. There are so many different opportunities within our human resources department. I enjoy the exposure I receive in other areas of the department and look forward to expanding my knowledge through these courses.
