Program details

Format Choose from three formats:

Each course runs between 6 and 12 weeks and involves 36 to 42 hours of instruction.*

*In-class courses meet during the day, in the evenings and on weekends.
Online courses can be accessed at your convenience via Canvas, our online course management system. 


You have up to five years to finish the program.*

*Beginning on the day you start your first course (as long as the course is part of the program's curriculum when you apply). 

Upcoming term You may start in any term with either Human Resources Management or Organizational Behaviour.
Courses There are six required courses.
Learning materials Check individual course descriptions for requirements. The cost of any textbooks is not included in your tuition. 
Tuition Tuition is based on the total cost of individual course fees, which are currently $649 per course.
Application fee $75 (non-refundable)
Application deadline Apply anytime. There is no application deadline for this program.

Flexible scheduling

The Human Resources Management Certificate is available both in class and online. Whatever format you choose, the curriculum is designed to meet the scheduling needs of a working professional. You can learn in the way that works best for you: in the evenings and/or on weekends in Vancouver and Surrey, or online from wherever your computer is.

Interactive learning environment

SFU Continuing Studies’ learning environment, both online and in class, is interactive. You will work through each course with learners from different professional backgrounds who will share their experiences, ideas and expertise. Our instructors are leading faculty members and industry professionals whom we choose on the basis of their academic credentials, experience and teaching abilities.

Coursework: What to expect

Coursework reflects and builds upon the real-world experience that everyone brings to the program. Whether you're studying in class or online, prepare to spend six to ten hours per week on each course, which may include the following:

  • Weekly reading and assignments
  • Lectures and case studies

  • Exams
Online courses
  • Weekly course modules, which you'll access through Canvas
  • Readings
  • Online discussions
  • Individual and group assignments
  • Exams

Your course materials will be available 24/7, and assignment deadlines are posted well in advance, allowing you to set your own pace for learning. You do not have to be online at specific times, but you will need to be online regularly. You should plan to access Canvas at least once every two days to keep up with your work and group assignments. Your instructors will always be available by email.

English language requirements  

To meet the demands of the program, you should have an advanced level of spoken and written English.

Technical information (online students)

You’ll access the online courses through Canvas, our learning management system, which is available through the SFU website. Canvas is extremely user-friendly—even if you’ve never studied online before. All you need is a computer with an Internet connection.

Evaluation and graduation  

Evaluation methods vary, but you will receive a final letter grade (A to F) at the end of each course. To receive the Human Resources Management Certificate, complete and pass all six courses with a minimum average grade of C and submit a graduation request form.
