Part-time, in-class Legal Interpretation and Translation Certificate (Mandarin Chinese/English)

Application requirements


There is no minimum TOEFL or IELTS score required to apply for this part-time certificate program. We will evaluate your application based on your academic qualifications, proficiency in both English and Mandarin Chinese, and your performance on our entrance exam.

Applicants to the program must fulfill the following entrance requirements before proceeding with the entrance exam:

  • An undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree or an equivalent combination of college education and work experiencea from a recognized university or college in Canada or abroad
  • Competence in both English and Mandarin Chinese
  • Cross-cultural competence
  • Past training in interpreting and translation, or equivalent experience in working as an interpreter/translator is preferred but not required

Once we review your application, we will arrange the entrance exam, which contains written translation and oral tests. If you pass the entrance exam, you'll be accepted into the program and receive further instructions on paying your tuition. If you are an international student, you must pay your tuition before we release a formal letter of admission, which you'll require to apply for a study permit.

Simon Fraser University's Designated Learning Institution number (DLI#) is O18781994282. All international students enrolled in the Legal Interpretation and Translation Certificate program must present their valid study permit to the program on the first day of classes. We must keep current records of this information to ensure your eligibility to study in Canada.
