Make a difference as a career development practitioner
Would you like to develop career management skills for your current role as an HR professional, training coordinator, educator or consultant? Or, are you preparing to enter the career development field and become a career practitioner, employment counsellor or university career services professional? SFU’s Career Development Practitioner Certificate: Career Management will prepare you to excel in either career path. Eleven focused courses and workshops cover a variety of essential career topics:
- Jim Bright's Chaos Theory of Careers
- Formal and informal career assessment
- Bruce Tuckman's four stages of group development
- Changing themes in each decade of an adult's life
- Career services in universities
- Coaching skills for success
You'll graduate ready to plan and implement career development programs in various contexts, including employment and educational settings.
Study part-time with other professionals
This career development program is designed to fit a working professional's schedule. Classes meet one evening and one full Saturday per week in Surrey. In addition to learning from your instructors, who are industry experts, you'll benefit from the experience of your classmates, who are also building their careers.
Earn or maintain a designation
When you complete our program, you will be awarded the Career Development Practitioner Certificate from SFU, entitling you to full SFU alumni benefits. Our program will also prepare you to pursue two designations:
The program can also help you maintain a designation. Each course is preapproved for continuing education credits from Vocational Rehabilitation Association of Canada (VRAC) and the College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals (CVRP).
