Learning environment
You'll have the opportunity to take an active role in your project management training and learn by doing. Courses are a combination of lectures, presentations, discussions and practical examples.
Group work will prepare you to function as a member of a high-performing project team. You'll go through each course with others with whom you can share professional experience and ideas.
Coursework: What to expect
Most of SFU’s project management courses will have pre-reading and take-home assignments. You will also make presentations and participate in class exercises, group discussions and case studies.
Learning materials
By the time you have completed the last course in the program, we expect that you will have read through A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), 6th edition (from March to July 2021) or 7th edition (effective September 2021), which can be purchased online, at local bookstores, or through the PMI website. See individual courses for further textbook information. The cost of textbooks is not included in your tuition.
Graduation requirements
To complete the Project Management Certificate, complete and pass all courses and submit a graduation request form. We evaluate all courses on a pass/fail basis using a combination of your assignments, individual or group projects, exams, participation and attendance.
Attendance and participation throughout the full duration of a course is mandatory if you wish to be eligible to receive the Project Management Certificate. Please note that we ask you to be in the classroom at the posted starting time.
