Franklin D. & Helen K. Van Pykstra Graduate Scholarship

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of this award is to provide financial support for outstanding students, preferably to those who have a permanent disability, who are pursuing a graduate degree in the Faculty of Applied Sciences. 
  2. One scholarship will be awarded each year subject to the availability of funds in the endowment.
  3. The criteria for this award are:
    1. demonstrated academic excellence at the undergraduate level and, if applicable, at the graduate level
    2. registration at Simon Fraser University in a graduate program in Applied Sciences
    3. promise of outstanding achievement at the graduate level with particular emphasis on intellectual ability, originality and ability in research
    4. preference will be given to physically disabled students, and/or to students in the Management and Systems Science Program.
  4. The student must be nominated for this award by the Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences.
  5. Application is made on the online Grad Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3) and must be accompanied by:
    1. copies of all post-secondary transcripts
    2. a brief personal statement addressing the aims of the scholarship
    3. a brief outline of the proposed research
  6. The completed nomination and all supporting documents must be received by the department of enrollment.
  7. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
