Award Payments

If you have received one of the awards listed below, please click on the corresponding link below to learn how to activate your award through the Office of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Fellows.

SFU Internal Awards (GFs, SGESs, Major Entrance Award, TMRA, GIRTA, SFU Private Awards)

For awards provided by SFU:

  • You must 'accept' your award online via the GA3 system.  You will have received an email prompt alerting you to the 'offer' of an award.
  • Sign up for Direct Deposit through the Student Information System by following the instructions listed on the right-hand side of this page

Donor Designated/External Awards (BCIC, MSFSS, Pacific Leaders, PICs)

For Donor Designated awards:  

  • You must 'accept' your award online via the GA3 system.  You will have received an email prompt alerting you to the 'offer' of an award.
  • Sign up for Direct Deposit through the Student Information System by following the instructions listed on the right-hand side of this page

CIHR: Vanier and Doctoral Level Awards

Send directly to CIHR via paper, email or fax, the following:

  • Response to the Offer of Award

Send directly to the Office of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Fellows Office the following: 

  • A copy of the Offer of an Award, which includes the award name, start date, duration and value
  • A copy of the CIHR Response to an Offer of Award
  • CIHR Confirmation of Commencement, signed by award-holder and supervisor

Once our office has received the above documentation, we will set up your award payments on SFU's Grad Awards (GA3) system. You will then receive an email prompting you to accept the award payments. 

Awards are paid in lump sum installments at the beginning of each term. Funds are applied to your student account, paying any tuition or fees and the remaining funds being transferred to your personal bank account (if you have signed up for direct deposit). Don't forget to sign up for Direct Deposit through the Student Information System; instructions can be found here

NSERC: Vanier and Doctoral Level Awards

Send directly to NSERC via paper, email or fax, the following:

SSHRC: Vanier and Doctoral Level Awards

Send directly to the Office of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Fellows the following: 

Be sure to fill out and sign Part II before submitting to our office. We will confirm your registration and forward the form to SSHRC on your behalf. Our office will setup your award payments on SFU's Grad Awards (GA3) System. You will receive an email prompting you to accept the award payments. 

Awards are paid in lump sum installments at the beginning of each term. Funds are applied to your student account, paying any tuition or fees and the remaining funds will be transferred to your personal bank account (if you have signed up for direct deposit). Don't forget to sign up for Direct Deposit through the Student Information System; instructions can be found here

CGS-Master's Scholarships: Tri-Council Harmonized CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC

After you accept your CGSM award on the TriCouncil's Research Portal, you will need to send the Office of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Fellows the following:
