Award Payments

If you have received one of the awards listed below, please click on the corresponding link below to learn how to activate your award. 

SFU Internal Awards (GFs, SGESs, Major Entrance Award, TMRA, GIRTA, SFU Private Awards)

For awards provided by SFU, you must provide the Office of Graduate Studies with the:

  • signed and dated Award Acceptance Form (you will have received this via email)
  • sign up for Direct Deposit through the Student Information System by following the instructions listed on the right-hand side of this page

Donor Designated/External Awards (BCIC, MSFSS, NSERC IPS, Pacific Leaders, PICs)

For Donor Designated awards: you must provide the Office of Graduate Studies with the:

  • award letter as provided by the agency (outlining the award dates and value)
  • sign up for Direct Deposit through the Student Information System by following the instructions listed on the right-hand side of this page

CIHR: Vanier and Doctoral Level Awards

Please submit the following documents to activate your CIHR Award:

  • a copy of the CIHR Offer of an Award, which includes the award name, start date, duration and value
  • a copy of the CIHR Response to an Offer of Award
  • CIHR Confirmation of Commencement, signed by award-holder and supervisor
  • signed Tri-Council Payment Authorization Form (sent to you by Graduate Studies after the remaining documents above have been submitted and processed)
  • sign up for Direct Deposit through the Student Information System by following the instructions listed on the right-hand side of this page

Send directly to CIHR the following:

NSERC: Vanier and Doctoral Level Awards

Please submit to Graduate Studies via paper or email, the following documents to activate your NSERC Award:

  • A copy of the Award Letter including the page which shows the award amount and duration
  • NSERC Payment Activation Form 1B Part I
  • sign up for Direct Deposit through the Student Information System by following the instructions listed on the right-hand side of this page
  • signed Tri-Council Payment Authorization Form (sent to you by Graduate Studies after the remaining documents above have been submitted and processed)

Send directly to NSERC via paper, email or fax, the following:

SSHRC: Vanier and Doctoral Level Awards

Please submit to Graduate Studies the following documents to activate your SSHRC award:

  • copy of your 'Notice of Award'
  • SSHRC Payment Activation Form Part I & Part II
  • signed Tri-Council Payment Authorization Form (sent to you by Graduate Studies after the remaining documents above have been submitted and processed)
  • sign up for Direct Deposit through the Student Information System by following the instructions listed on the right-hand side of this page

CGS-Master's Scholarships: Tri-Council Harmonized CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC

New Tri-Council CGS-M award holders (SSHRC, NSERC or CIHR) must submit the Activation of Award form at least one month before the start of the award; otherwise, the first payment may be delayed. This form contains basic information required by SFU to initiate payment of your award. Please submit the Activation of Award form and a copy of your Notice of Award/Award Letter to the Office of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Fellows (MBC 1100) in person, by FAX at 778-782-3080 or email at dgsaward@sfu.ca.
