Terms of Reference

This fellowship is intended for entering or continuing graduate students in the EdD Program.

  1. A minimum of one partial fellowship (0.5) every year should be awarded to an EdD student who meets all the criteria below plus one additional criterion: the student must be a resident of a community outside the Greater Vancouver Regional District.
  2. EdD Grad Fellowship recipients are eligible to hold other scholarships funded from SFU sources.
  3. Eligible students must be registered as a full-time, regular (not "on-leave") student and must normally have a first-class (3.50) cumulative grade point average. In exceptional cases, other evidence of outstanding ability may outweigh this criterion.
  4. Academic merit is the primary criterion for ranking eligible applicants; the department will advise all applicants in advance if additional criteria will be used. Academic merit is based on grades, research ability, scholarship (publications and presentations), and progress in the graduate program. This is primarily a merit-based award; given equally qualified applicants, the potential impact of the award on an applicant’s scholarship will be taken into consideration. A recommendation from the Senior Supervisor, or the Senior Supervisor and the Co-Supervisor, is also required.
  5. During the term of tenure of the fellowship, full-time status is required. A student may not be on leave during the fellowship and must be paying full fees (not continuing fees) during the tenure of the award.
  6. Application is made through the Graduate Award, Application, and Adjudication System (GA3, https://gradawards.sfu.ca/) by May 31. The application and any required documents/transcripts must be submitted online by the deadline.
  7. Awards are made by the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee on the recommendations of the EdD Program Committee.
