Greystone Books Graduate Scholarship in Publishing

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize and provide financial support to graduate students in the Master of Publishing program.
  2. One or more scholarships, valued at a minimum of $1,500, will be offered annually, in any term, to graduate students who fulfill the following criteria:
    1. have demonstrated academic excellence at the graduate level and, if applicable, at the undergraduate level;
    2. are registered full-time at Simon Fraser University in the Master of Publishing program in the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology; and
    3. whose work exhibits outstanding achievement at the graduate level with particular emphasis on intellectual ability and originality.
    4. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated interest in non-fiction publishing. 
  3. This scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  4. Applications will be made via the Graduate Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3). Required documents include:
    1. copies of post-secondary transcripts.
    2. one letter of reference from a faculty member familiar with the applicant's work; and
    3. at least one short sample of professional, academic, or business writing, or a portfolio piece, ideally non-fiction, that exhibits outstanding achievement at the graduate level with particular emphasis on intellectual ability and originality.
  5. If a suitable candidate is not identified, the scholarship may be awarded in a subsequent term or year.
  6. The scholarship will be granted by the Dean and Associate Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee, upon the nomination of the Director, Master of Publishing.
