Stanley Morisse Memorial Scholarship

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of this award is to recognize and provide financial support to one or more graduate students (MA or PhD level) who are or will be undertaking studies related to history, archaeology, art history, international relations, literature, or language of Cyprus or Cypriot culture.
  2. The scholarship will be granted annually to a student who fulfills the following criteria:
    1. has demonstrated academic excellence at the gradute level and/or at the undergraduate level
    2. is registered at Simon Fraser University in a graduate program through Hellenic Studies
    3. is proficient in both English and Greek language
    4. is pursuing research in any faculty related to Cypriot Studies.
  3. This scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  4. Students must apply on GA3 for this scholarship to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies at Simon Fraser University. Required documents include:
    1. copies of all post-secondary transcripts;
    2. two letters of reference including at least one from a faculty member familiar with the applicants work, and who can attest to the applicant's proficiency in both English and Greek languages
    3. a one page proposal describing how their work in Cypriot studies relates to the aims of this scholarship.
  5. If a suitable candidate is not identified, the scholarship may be disbursed in a subsequent term or year.
  6. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
