Urban Studies Alumni Award for Community Engagement

Terms of Reference

  1. The Urban Studies Alumni Award for Community Engagement is intended to recognize and provide funding to graduate students in the Master of Urban Studies or Graduate Diploma in Urban Studies program.
  2. The criteria for this award are:
    1. demonstrated academic excellence
    2. demonstrated record of making strong and positive contributions to the community that builds long term relationships and demonstrate leadership
    3. promise of community leadership in urban issues
  3. Students may apply on the online Grad Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3) and must be accompanied by:
    1. a current, unofficial SFU transcript and a copy of the transcript of the most recent degree program completed
    2. an application letter outlining the student's achievement and promise in community engagement
    3. one letter of reference or supporting document providing evidence of the nominee's contributions to their community and/or community leadership
    4. a curriculum vitae summarizing scholastic achievements and work relevant to the aims of this award
  4. Students will be nominated for this award by the Director of the Urban Studies Program. If a suitable candidate is not identified, the award may be given in a subsequent term.
  5. The award will be granted by the Dean of Graduate Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee, upon the nomination of the Director, Urban Studies Program.
