CanWest Global Graduate Fellowship in Communications

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of this Fellowship is to provide financial support for graduate students at Simon Fraser University who are pursuing, or intend to pursue, a graduate degree in School of Communication with interest in issues related to media broadcasting policy and practice.
  2. The CanWest Global Graduate Fellowship in Communications is an annual award, disbursed over two terms. Its value is subject to the income earned from its endowment fund and will increase as the endowment grows.
  3. The criteria for this award are:
    1. registration at Simon Fraser University in a graduate program in the School of Communication
    2. demonstrated academic excellence at the undergraduate level and, if applicable, at the graduate level
    3. indication of interest in issues related to broadcasting
    4. promise of outstanding achievement with particular emphasis on research ability and originality
  4. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  5. Application is made on the Application for a Private Graduate Scholarship form and must be accompanied by:
    1. Copies of all post-secondary transcripts
    2. A concise outline of the proposed or actual thesis research
    3. One paper selected by the student as representative of his or her work
    4. Two letters of reference from faculty members familiar with the applicant's work
  6. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies, on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
