Coastal Zone Canada (BC) Association Graduate Scholarship in the Faculty of Environment

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of this award is to recognize and provide financial support to graduate students in the Faculty of Environment whose research focuses on the science and/or management of human activities, natural environments, physical processes and living and non-living resources within the coastal zone of British Columbia. 
  2. One or more scholarships, valued at a minimum of $1,000 each, will be offered annually, in any term, to graduate students who fulfill the following criteria: 
    1. are registered full-time in a graduate program in the Faculty of Environment; 
    2. have demonstrated academic excellence in the most recent degree program completed or in their current graduate program as evidenced by a minimum 3.5 CGPA; and 
    3. have a demonstrated history or expression of interest in research or work related to the science and/or management of human activities, natural environments, physical processes and living and non-living resources within the coastal zone of British Columbia. 
  3. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  4. Applications will be made via the online Grad Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3). Required documents include: 
    1. copies of all post-secondary transcripts; 
    2. one letter of reference from a faculty member familiar with the applicant's work; 
    3. a current curriculum vitae; 
    4. a one-page summary of the applicant's research, including how it relates to the broad themes of the scholarship. 
  5. If suitable candidates are not identified, the award may be disbursed in a subsequent term or year. 
  6. The award will be granted by the Dean and Associate Provost, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies on behalf of the Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee upon the nomination of the Associate Dean, Graduate and Research in the Faculty of Environment.
