Canadian Pacific/Teck Resources Award for Environmental Innovation

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of the Canadian Pacific/Teck Resources Award for Environmental Innovation is to support graduate students in the Faculty of Environment who are pursuing or intend to pursue research that focuses on finding innovative solutions/approaches to environmental challenges and sustainability.
  2. The Canadian Pacific/Teck Resources Award for Environmental Innovation is a two-term award valued at a portion of the income earned from the endowment fund. If sufficient funds are available and multiple students meet the criteria for this award, multiple one-term awards of equal value may be granted.
  3. The criteria for this award are:
    1. demonstrated research excellence at the graduate level and, if applicable, at the undergraduate level
    2. full-time registration in a graduate program in the Faculty of Environment
    3. minimum CGPA of 3.00 and satisfactory progress in the graduate program
    4. current or proposed research that focuses on finding innovative solutions/approaches to environmental challenges and sustainability
    5. preference for this award is given to Masters and PhD students who have not previously received it
  4. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  5. Applications can be made on the online Grad Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3) and must be accompanied by:
    1. A current, unofficial SFU transcript and a copy of the official transcript of the most recent degree program completed
    2. A curriculum vitae summarizing scholastic achievements and work relevant to the aims of this award
    3. A one-page summary of the applicant’s current or proposed research on innovative solutions/approaches to environmental challenges and sustainability
    4. A letter of reference from a faculty member familiar with the applicant’s work and research potential
  6. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on the nomination of the Dean of the Faculty of Environment, and on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
