Dr. Ellen Gee Memorial Graduate Scholarship for Excellence

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of this award is to provide financial support for a student at Simon Fraser University pursuing a graduate degree in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and whose research is in the area of family, gender, ethnicity, ageing, health and/or social policy.
  2. The criteria for this award are:
    1. registration within the first five terms of their graduate program in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Simon Fraser University researching the area of family, gender, ethnicity, ageing, health and/or social policy
    2. demonstrated academic excellence at the undergraduate level, and if applicable, the graduate level
    3. demonstrated commitment to public service / volunteerism
  3. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  4. The student must be nominated for this award by the Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. The award application and/or nomination is made using the online Grad Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3) and must include:
    1. copies of all post-secondary transcripts
    2. a concise outline of the proposed or actual program of studies;
    3. two letters of reference from faculty members familiar with the applicant’s work
    4. a curriculum vitae detailing commitment to public service / volunteerism
  5. The final selection of a candidate will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies, on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
