Richard G. Lipsey Award

Terms of Reference

The Economics Graduate Endowment Fund was established at Simon Fraser University in 2009 through generous contributions from faculty and staff in the Department of Economics during the 2008 Campus Community Campaign. The Fund supports the Herbert G. Grubel Award and the Richard G. Lipsey Award.

  1. The Richard G. Lipsey Award is an annual award valued at 50% of the earned interest of the endowment (up to a maximum of $1,000). This award will be given to a continuing PhD student with the best comprehensive exam results at the end of the first year (macro/micro).
  2. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  3. Students must be nominated by the Graduate Program Chair of the Department of Economics. The nominations must be made on the online graduate awards system (GA3) and must be accompanied by:
    1. a current, unofficial SFU transcript
    2. a nomination letter describing the merits of each nominee
  4. The awards will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies, on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee.
