Mutual Fire Insurance Company of BC Graduate Scholarship in Biological Sciences

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of this award is to provide financial support for a student pursuing a Masters or PhD graduate degree program in biology with a focus on research applicable to British Columbia’s poultry, dairy, ranch and/or crop agricultural industries.
  2. The criteria for this award are:
    1. demonstrated academic excellence at the undergraduate level and, if applicable, at the graduate level
    2. full-time registration at Simon Fraser University in a graduate program in the Faculty of Science, Department of Biological Sciences
    3. promise of outstanding achievement at the graduate level with particular emphasis on intellectual ability, originality and ability in research
  3. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  4. The student must be nominated for this award by the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences. The nomination is made on the online Grad Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3) and must be accompanied by:
    1. a nomination letter from a faculty member familiar with the applicant’s research interests
    2. copies of all post secondary transcripts
    3. proposed program of studies demonstrating focus on research applicable to British Columbia’s poultry, dairy, ranch and/or crop agricultural industries
  5. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee, and on the recommendation of the Department of Biological Sciences Graduate Program Committee.
