Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) Annual Graduate Award in Resource and Environmental Management (Planning)

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of this award is to provide research support to students pursuing a degree in Resource Management (Planning) Program, who is involved in student planning activities and/or organizations.
  2. The criteria for this award are:
    1. full-time registration at Simon Fraser University in a Master’s of Resource Management (Planning) Program
    2. demonstrated academic and research excellence at the graduate level with particular emphasis on intellectual ability, originality and ability in research
    3. involvement in student planning or other planning-related community activities
    4. be a student member in good standing of the Planning Institute of British Columbia, as confirmed by the Institute
  3. This award may not be held in conjunction with another award funded by the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) during the same academic year. Recipients of the PIBC Graduate Scholarship may only receive this award once during their degree program.
  4. Application is made on the online Grad Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3) and must be accompanied by:
    1. a current, unofficial SFU transcript OR an official transcript from the most recent degree program at another post-secondary institution for a student just entering the graduate program at SFU
    2. a concise description (one page or less) of the proposed or actual thesis research project
    3. a curriculum vitae summarizing scholastic achievements and work relevant to the aims of this scholarship (planning-related activities, organizations or involvement)
    4. two letters of reference: one letter of reference from the student’s supervisor and the second letter of reference from someone other than the supervisor who is familiar with the applicant’s research and planning activities
  5. The completed application and all supporting documents must be received by the department of enrolment.
  6. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee, upon the recommendation of the Director of the School of Resource and Environmental Management (Planning Program).
