Orient Star Media Graduate Scholarship in Global Communication

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of this award is to recognize and provide financial support to graduate students enrolled full-time in the Global Communication M.A. Double Degree Program in SFU's School of Communication.
  2. Scholarships are granted to students who fulfill the following criteria:
    1. have demonstrated academic excellence at the graduate level; and
    2. are registered at Simon Fraser University in the Global Communication M.A. Double Degree Program in the School of Communication and are completing their first year in the program.
  3. Preference will be given to students who are pursuing research in political economy, policy, and technological dimensions of transcultural and transnational communication or engaging in media production that contributes to transcultural understanding.
  4. This scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  5. Application is made on the online Grad Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3) and must be accompanied by:
    1. copies of all postsecondary transcripts;
    2. a current curriculum vitae;
    3. one letter of reference from faculty members familiar with the applicant's work
    4. one-page summary of the applicant's research noting if or how it relates to transcultural communication.
  6. If a suitable candidate is not identified, the scholarship may be disbursed in a subsequent term or year.
  7. The scholarship will be granted by the Dean of Graduate Studies, on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee, upon the nomination of the Director, School of Communication.
