Randy Sitter Annual Graduate Scholarship in Statistics and Actuarial Science

Terms of Reference

  1. The award is intended to honour a student of distinction in a Master’s or Doctoral Program in Statistics and Actuarial Science and who possesses some of the qualities that were hallmarks of Professor Sitter’s life. In particular, he demonstrated passion for his research and other activities, an untiring work ethic, support for his peers and colleagues, fair-mindedness and a hatred of injustice. He was well-known for his sportsmanship and generous and fun-loving nature.
  2. The value of this scholarship can vary due to the funds from the endowment and is normally paid in the Spring term.
  3. The eligibility criteria for this award are:
    1. demonstrated academic excellence
    2. registration at Simon Fraser University in a graduate program in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science
    3. promise of outstanding achievement at the graduate level with particular emphasis on intellectual ability, originality and ability in research
  4. This award may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies.
  5. Application is made on the Graduate Award, Application, and Adjudication System (GA3) and must be accompanied by:
    1. a statement, no more than one page in length, which addresses the applicant’s suitability for the award and exemplified qualities that were hallmarks of Randy Sitter’s life and personality (as outlined in Point 1 above)
    2. a curriculum vitae 
  6. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee upon the recommendation of the Chair of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science.
