Lillian Zimmerman Graduate Scholarship in Gerontology

Terms of Reference

  1. The purpose of the Lillian Zimmerman Graduate Scholarship in Gerontology is to provide financial support for a graduate student pursuing a Masters degree in Department of Gerontology, who is in his/her first year of study, and whose research is in the area of the family and aging, gender, ethnicity, population aging, health and/or social policy.
    Preference will be given to a female student.
  2. The criteria for this award are:
    1. registration in the first year of study in the Masters program in Department of Gerontology at Simon Fraser University in the area of family and aging, gender, ethnicity, aging, health and/or social policy
    2. demonstrated academic excellence at the undergraduate level and, if applicable, at the graduate level
  3. This scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards made by Simon Fraser University or other agencies where permitted by those agencies and where the goals of other award(s) are within the criteria of the Lillian Zimmerman Graduate Scholarship in Department of Gerontology.
  4. The student must be nominated for this award by the Chair of the Department of Gerontology. The nomination must be made on the online Grad Awards, Application and Adjudication System (GA3) and must be accompanied by:
    1. copies of all post-secondary transcripts
    2. a concise outline of the proposed or actual research project
    3. one letter of reference from a faculty member familiar with the applicant’s work
    4. a letter by the applicant outlining his/her goals in pursuing this scholarship
  5. The award will be made by the Dean of Graduate Studies, on behalf of the Senate Graduate Awards Adjudication Committee, upon the recommendation of the Gerontology’s Graduate Program Committee.
