The BPK Faculty Undergraduate Annual Research Prize

Terms of Reference

  1. This prize is intended to recognize and provide financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students who will be carrying out research projects not for credit, during any term under the supervision of a faculty member in the BPK Department at SFU.
  2. The expectation is that the student will be involved in conducting research on a full-time basis on the project for at least twelve weeks during the Summer term or that the student will be conducting part-time research for at least twenty four weeks during the Fall and Spring terms.
  3. The BPK Faculty Undergraduate Student Research Award funding is derived from two sources: the BPK Faculty Undergraduate award fund at a minimum of $3,000, and a faculty supplement necessary to keep this award value consistent with the SFU VPR USRAs and NSERC funding. 
  4. This prize is normally valued at approximately $3,000 and will be granted to a student who, at the time of application fulfills the following criteria:
    1. is enrolled in a bachelor's degree program with a major in BPK;
    2. has completed all of the course requirements of at least the first year of university study
    3. has maintained, over the previous year of study, a minimum of 2.67 CGPA;
    4. has held two or less undergraduate student research awards (including NSERC USRAs); and
    5. has not started a program of graduate studies.
  5. The student holding the prize must be conducting their research project under the supervision or co-supervision of a regular faculty member in the BPK Department, who must hold an external research grant. If co-supervised, both supervisors must be specified in the application.
  6. The supervisor of the project must at least match the amount of the prize.
  7. Applications are forwarded directly to BPK by January 30th.
  8. The nomination for the successful candidate is submitted to Graduate Studies and must include the following documents:
    1. Private Graduate Scholarship Application
    2. A current, unofficial SFU transcript
    3. Proof of matching funds from the supervisor such as a copy of the payroll appointment form
