    Dr. Amy De’Ath has an international reputation as a poet and her doctoral dissertation, Unsociable Poetry: Antagonism and Abstraction in Contemporary Feminized Poetics, provides new insights into the long-standing debate over the relationships between culture and capital in a moment of protracted economic crisis.

    Grace Potma started her MBA in SFU's Beedie School of Business to learn how to create sustainable change in healthcare systems. She learned about the importance of a voice for change while working and studying alongside dedicated healthcare colleagues in BC, New Zealand, and Zambia.

    Dr. Ayaka Yoshimizu's dissertation, After Displacement: Excavating Memories of Migrant Sex Workers and Becoming Entangled with the Water Trade in Yokohama, looks at the “memoryscapes” of the sex trade that existed in the district of Koganecho in the 2000s.

  • Dr. Hui Niu receives Dean's Convocation Medal June 02, 2017
    For her dissertation, Pedagogical Efficacy of Argument Visualization Tools, Dr. Hui Niu developed a new online argumentation visualization tool which she calls the dialectical map. Students create dialectical maps by identifying and composing claims, evidence, and warrants and filling them in an online map.

    Dr. Ross Churchley's dissertation, Odd Disjoint Trails and Totally Odd Graph Immersions, contributes to a deeper understanding of graph immersions and related open problems of structural graph theory.

  • Dr. Evan McCuish receives Dean's Convocation Medal June 02, 2017
    During the four years of his PhD, Dr. Evan McCuish has published 15 journal articles and six book chapters prior to completion of his dissertation. He also co-authored 29 different paper presentations, including nine as the lead author, and collaborated internationally with researchers from across the globe.

  • Dr. Stefanie Rezansoff receives Dean's Convocation Medal June 02, 2017
    In 2012, Dr. Stefanie Rezansoff received a Dean's Convocation Medal for her Master’s degree. This year, she will receive a second Dean's Convocation Medal for her Doctoral research. She also sets a record: Dr. Rezansoff is the first student in SFU history to win two Dean of Graduate Studies Convocation Medals.

  • Tiffany Vass receives Dean's Convocation Medal June 02, 2017
    Tiffany Vass achieved a stellar 4.3 CGPA over her graduate program courses in the School of Resource and Environmental Management. Her Master’s research used energy-economy modeling to analyze policy options for Canada to achieve its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, with a focus on flexible regulations due to their potential political acceptability advantage over alternatives such as carbon pricing.

    Mr. Amir Valibeygi came to SFU from Iran in 2013 and over the next two years, achieved a near-perfect 4.25 GPA in his graduate program. He was also the graduate student liaison at the school of Mechatronic Systems Engineering.

    Dr. William Ko’s doctoral work has already given rise to two publications in the SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, one of the top journals in applied mathematics. His results may be applied to the study of not just one but two complex human organ systems (the cochlea and heart) that are each a subject of huge and intensely active areas in neuro- and cardiac physiology.
