Contest Entry: Hanbo Li

February 04, 2013

We're sharing the contest entries from our Photos of Home grad student photo competition.

This photo, entitled "Home and Family" is from Hanbo Li, School of Engineering Science, who writes:

There is an old saying in China, "Don't stray far from home when your parents are there". It might not make much sense for people from other cultures, but that sentence is always kept in mind by me and other Chinese peers who have grown up under the one-child policy. For us, home is about families.  In fact, the Chinese word for "family" is a combination of the words "home" and "people".

This picture was taken in Tongli, Jiangsu Province, China. I chose it because it contains a lot of things which I miss about home, those red lanterns, potted plants and rainy days. Everything in it reminds me of days spent with my family. Beautiful memories!
