We're sharing the contest entries from our Photos of Home grad student photo competition.

These photos are from Lihua Zong, Faculty of Education, who writes:

Photos 1 & 2: Old Shanghai

This photo was taken in my hometown, Shanghai, on a sunny winter afternoon. The type of architecture in this picture is called Shikumen. It is unique in Shanghai, and it is an important component of Shanghaii's culture and history; however, with the rapid modern construction in Shanghai, many Shikumen are disappearing.

At the same time, the traditional Shanghainese lifestyle and my memory of home culture are also fading. You may have noticed that people hang clothes out in Shanghai, and this is a traditional Shanghai lifestyle.

This picture is a reminder of my home culture. Every time I look at this picture, I am filled with nostalgia for my hometown.

Photo 3: Peaceful Home

The photo below is taken at Peace Arch Park in BC. This border symbolizes many Canadians' idea of homeland.
