Degree Completion

There are a number of academic and administrative steps involved in the final stages of your degree program. All requirements are governed by Graduate General Regulations (1.9 - 1.11).

Application to graduate is done through the Student Information System. Under Academics, click on the dropdown list and select "Apply/Cancel Graduation".

The deadline for graduate students to apply to graduate is usually one to two weeks before the library submission deadline for your thesis. Please check exact dates on the SFU Library website.

You may apply to graduate at any time in what you're planning to be your final semester of graduate school. You do not have to wait until your thesis has been accepted by the library. If circumstances change, it is a straightforward process to withdraw your application to graduate.

Instructions on how to apply to graduate are available at SFU's Convocation website.

SFU's Convocation ceremonies take place in June (apply between September and mid-April) and October (apply between May and mid-August).

Graduate students who do not attend their convocation ceremony can pick up their parchments at the Office of the Dean of Graduate Studies, Maggie Benston Centre 1100, Monday to Friday between 9 am and 4:30 pm, or by special arrangement by calling 778.782.3042.
